A BIRD WATCHERS YEAR

Spring, Summer, Autumn, & Winter. Whatever the season and whatever the habitat, bird watchers can always find something to hold their attention. Through the lens of a camera, we are introduced to some of the bird life and to the special atmosphere associated with each of the four seasons.

OFFSHORE ISLANDS
This talk takes you on a fascinating boat trip to a group of islands that lie a few miles off the Northumbrian coast. The Farne Islands play host to spectacular colonies of sea birds, allowing the visitor amazing views at close quarters. Species such as the comical Puffin, the amazing long distance travellers, the Arctic Tern, and the noisy Kittiwake, all make you feel welcome. We also travel up country a few miles, just over the Scottish border, and visit the spectacular Gannetry of the famous Bass Rock.

FEEDING GARDERN BIRDS & THE INSIDE STORY
Feeding our feathered friends during the cold bleak Winter months is very important and vital for their survival. What food can we give them? How do we present this food? Have you ever wondered what is going on inside the nest box at the bottom of your garden, What do the young look like just a few minutes old? What do they do? This two part story uncovers many of the answers to these questions, amply illustrated with unique photographs taken in the presenters own garden!

A SHETLAND EXPERIENCE
The Shetland Isles are very special to the bird watcher. To encounter the sounds, sights, and smells is something not to be forgotten. This talk takes you on a trip to mainland Shetland, showing some of these special sights; visiting Foula, one of the islands which lies off the west coast. The island has a very large population of the ‘Bonxie’ (The Great Skua), a bird of a very aggressive nature. Thousands of other seabirds spend their Summer on the magnificent coastal cliffs.

A WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHERS YEAR
This talk is based on a year in the life of the wildlife photographer. Travelling many miles to produce the high standard of images needed for today's market. Every season of the year holds attraction for the photographer. From the Winter bird feeding stations and winter wild fowl, to the Spring nest building and rearing of young. Summer is full of life with large numbers of migrants offering great opportunities for that special picture, along with Autumn and its amazing display of colour.
